Biofuel Cross Country Trip Successful
We were tipped off to this publicity stunt by a blog with a boring title that we thought explained it’s content too clearly. Gas Mileage Calculators was where we first heard about two copywriters who set out from New York to see if they could drive to California on a single tank of biodiesel. The tank was a special one made for the Volkswagon Jetta used on the trip that held 60 gallons of fuel.
Sponsors in addition to Volkswagon included BioWille, the biodiesel fuel company owned by country music star Willie Nelson. Drivers on the trip were the two copywriters who were hired to promote BioWillie, Nik Bristow and Brian Pierce.
We’d say they did a good job of it too. The route they followed was one made famous in the 1970s and in the 1980s movie “the Cannonball Run.” The original race was won in 35 hours and 54 minutes. Since It took Bristow and Pierce 38 hours and 37 minutes, they didn’t hit the first of their two goals, to make the run in 36 hours. They did make it however, and did garner some publicity for both BioWIllie the company, and biodiesel in general, which we applaud.
